Mario Calderini, PhD in Economics from the University of Manchester, is a full professor at the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano, where he teaches Impact and Sustainability Management. He is director of Tiresia, the Center for Research on Social Impact Finance and Innovation at the Graduate School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano.

In 2021 he was included in the list of the world's 100 most influential academics on politics. He writes for Repubblica. He sits on the Advisory Board of Unicredit Group. He is currently a cabinet adviser to Minister Colao and a member of the Sustainable Infrastructure Finance Commission established by Minister Giovannini; he has been scientific adviser to the Minister of Research and Innovation for four successive governments and Government Sherpa for the G7. His numerous publications in prestigious international journals cover various topics in the field of innovation and social impact finance. He was a member of the G8 Task Force on Impact Investing. He is an advisor to the European Commission on social impact finance and entrepreneurship.
