Awerangi Tamihere
Chief Operating Officer
Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency and Te Whānau o Waipareria
Awerangi Tamihere is the Chief Operating Officer of the North Island Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency and Te Whānau o Waipareria Trust in Aotearoa/New Zealand, both which have a clear focus upon improving overall well-being for communities. She has spent the last three decades working with Māori – our indigenous communities, to support development of policy, blueprinting and implementing game-changers that contribute to the success and wellbeing of Māori. Understanding and measuring social impact has become an effective framework for Whānau Ora to assess how to invest in the strength of whānau – the family unit – and to assess lasting change over time.
Her career spans the public sector – working in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in Social Reform and other government agencies through to the public sector – establishing and leading the KPMG Māori Consulting Team. She is currently a director on a number of national and regional bodies that influence national policy, systemic health reforms and regional workforce strategic planning and solutions.
